The wool is hardwearing and makes lightweight, warm garments that soften beautifully with age. Use it for hats, mittens, jumpers, and house socks and slippers. The yarn is made up of 2 plies, which lends itself well to lace patterns and stranded colourwork. This yarn hasn’t been superwash-treated, so it will felt if you want it to. This also makes it an excellent candidate for steeking, if you’re brave enough!

This comes mostly from a flock of Shetlands in Braunston (with additions from neighbouring flocks); a major canal destination that can be reached by boat from our studio in one day! Flock owners Lynne and David have been breeding Shetland sheep for 17 years, focusing specifically on the quality of the wool, which is incredibly soft. The yarn has a heathered appearance, as many different coloured fleeces have gone into this delightfully local spin. This year we have 2 undyed, natural shades and 6 dyed.
